Development Phase of Noida Since Inception

When "Yamuna-Hindon-Delhi Border Regulated Area" got established by the UP Government in 1972 it was done for the planned urban growth of Noida. Until then the governing body of this restricted area was powerless to prevent the development of an urban center there. However, in order to create an integrated industrial township, U.P. Government established the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) on April 1, 1976. A significant population has access to work opportunities thanks to the industrial, economic, and institutional development of the city. This was the direct result of the adoption of consecutive master plans made by the NOIDA Authority. Best builders in Greater Noida served as a stimulus for the creation of comparatively superior infrastructure and arranged provision of lakhs of people with inexpensive housing. It was not clear at that time that big commercial projects on Noida Expressway, constructed at a later date, would take the development at an all time high.

Plans of Development during Early Days
For the planned growth of the city, master plans were created that included information about the city's future size, pattern, growth and direction. The Noida Authority created the initial Master Plan in 1991 with the goals of developing an integrated township with a population of 3,75,000. It made provisions of developed sites for approximately 10,000 small-scale industrial units, which would employ approximately 41,000 industrial workers.

However, even before the strategy was put into action, the fundamental premise upon which it was based got severely re-evaluated. Some specialists suggested that the sizes of concerned sites were too large and the projected worker density was too low for the proposed small-scale industrial units. According to the updated projection done by some of the best builders in Greater Noida, the anticipated 10,000 industrial jobs would only employ 2,20,000 people.

Even the latest updates revealed that 2,20,000 workers would be employed at the proposed 10,000-acre industrial zone. Assuming a workers participation rate of 27.5 percent and a population density of 148 people per hectare, Noida's population would be close to one million.  But in its meeting on June 9, 1977, the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority set up an Expert Committee to come up with a specific development plan for Noida. The expert committee recommended that just 4000 industrial units be included in the township's planning, which would employ around 80,000 industrial workers.  Accordingly, it was estimated that the town's area would be roughly 3360 hectares, housing 5,000 people.  The Master Plan for Noida, 2001, was designed and completed in 1983 based on the expert committee's recommendations.

According to the 2001 Master Plan, show the predicted growth of the population and land usage. According, to the tables, the Master Plan for 2001 called for 5.5 lakh people to live in an urban area covering 3800 hectares, with a township's overall population density being around 145 people per hectare.
